Education, Outreach and Training
The NEES @ UCSD facilitiy is dedicated to community Education, Outreach, and Training and provides resources for students, faculty, researchers, and others who are curious about earthquakes and mitigating the effects of earthquakes on our infrastructure.
NEES @ UCSD has been involved with many EOT activities focused on encouraging NEES and non-NEES research at the facility, training current and future engineering professionals and researchers, and attracting a larger, more diverse group of students into earthquake engineering and other engineering fields.
EOT Activities include:
- supporting curriculum development efforts in the undergraduate structural engineering program at UCSD by incorporating research results into the classroom;
- organizing shake table training workshops jointly with University of Nevada, Reno and University at Buffalo;
- presenting the facility's capabilities at meetings and conferences; and
- giving facility tours for K-12 students and local community.
